MOU to enhance strategic cooperation on NFC signed between Kazatomprom and Rosatom

Rosatom State Corporation, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Atomic Company Kazatomprom JSC, within the framework of the XIII Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum held in Astana, signed a MOU to enhance strategic cooperation on nuclear fuel cycle.  The trilateral MOU was signed by Sergey Kirienko, the General Director of Rosatom State Corporation, Kanat Bozumbaev, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Askar Zhumagaliev, the Chairman of the Board of the National Atomic Company Kazatomprom JSC. In this memorandum, the parties confirmed their commitment to previously achieved agreements stated in the Comprehensive Development Program for Russia-Kazakhstan Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, as well as agreed to focus their efforts on further development of partnership and the use of existing infrastructure of joint ventures, including such sectors as extraction of natural uranium, conversion, enrichment, production of fuel and the final NFC stage.  Also, this document anticipates consideration of possible joint participation in international IAEA’s projects and joint use of existing transportation and logistics opportunities and routes at the Russian Far East. In elaboration of the Memorandum, the National Atomic Company Kazatomprom JSC and Uranium One Inc. signed an agreement on further development of the Karatau joint venture. A contract between the National Atomic Company Kazatomprom JSC and Uranium Enrichment Centre JSC to exercise an option for uranium enrichment services in the amount of nearly 2.5 mln SWU/year was also signed. This contract will be implemented by the Kazakh party within the framework of the UEC Project
